Safety first

If you ever go rafting on a Class 4 river, you'll proably be issued some super-sexy safety gear. Full-body black rubber wetsuit, personal floatation device, gigantic helmet (for the giant rocks you're bound to hit). You might even get to stand around in 90-degree heat for an hour+ while they divide up your groups and talk you through the safety lecture.

Not only will you look like a hot, juicy sausage, you'll feel like one, too.  Until you get into the freezing water, at which point you'll be very grateful for all the extra insulation. And the cranial protection. Whatever you do, don't EVER let go of your paddle.
